Granite Westchase I Achieves Silver
On May 13, 2010, Granite Westchase I in Houston achieved Silver certification under LEED for Existing Buildings; Operations and Maintenance, Version 2. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed, built and operates using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
The LEED certification process started in 2009 with final submittal at the end of December. As a result of the certification process Policies and Programs were written and implemented on Green Cleaning, Recycling/Waste Stream Management, Exterior Hardscape Surfaces and Landscaping, Sustainable Purchasing for Facility Alterations and Additions and others which increased operating efficiencies saving time and money with the result of increasing the value of our asset.
Achieving this certification was truly a team effort. Granite appreciates all of the work that our employees have put into this process and continues to work towards a our sustainable intuitive.
