Brenda Moore, Assistant Controller

"Being part of the Granite team provides many advantages, but one that stands out for me is the drive for both personal and professional growth.
We have been provided with opportunities to take training classes to help us expand our business knowledge, improve our communication skills, and strengthen our technical skills. Because of the slow economy, so many companies have stopped allowing employees to take training classes or attend conferences in an effort to cut costs. But here at Granite, we are still encouraged to take training classes and to continue in our development. Isn’t it easy to take for granted those things that have become second nature?"

"I can think of very few people that can honestly say that they look forward to going to work each day. I am one of those few because I am fortunate enough to work at Granite Properties. There is so much more to being employed at
Granite than just having a job. Some of my fellow Graniteers are more akin to a second family than they are business associates, and I’m not just referring to the folks here in Houston.

When hurricane Ike slammed into the Texas coast last year crippling Houston as well as most of our portfolio, our brethren up in the Dallas office came to our aid. They immediately began gathering supplies that we desperately needed here in Houston but were unable to get our hands on. A convoy then drove south to Houston on their own time pulling utility trailers loaded with supplies such as hundreds of gallons of gas and diesel to fuel our vehicles and generators, extension cords and bottled water.

Hopefully there will never be a need to do the same for them, but Granite Houston will certainly be ready and willing if the time does come to return the favor to our family up in Dallas."

"My first job after graduating Texas A&M was at Granite as an HR Assistant. I have
been with Granite since 2001 and I have had the opportunity to grow within this organization through being mentored and by gaining experience from so many
different areas in HR. Granite is a small company but through the training that is encouraged from the top down, employees can grow within their position in order to prepare them for the next step. I continue to grow in my position today and look forward to the challenges Granite has in store for me!"

"Granite allows me the opportunity to do what I love…helping others. Through the generous volunteer program, 40 hours are given to those who wish to serve our communities. Because of this program, I have been able to do mission work for
my church and participate in many worthwhile charities, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Children’s Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), and cancer causes.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a doctor….this is the next best thing in achieving my dream."
